who gets the ring when the engagement is broken off?

I was engaged for 3 years. dating for 7 years. found out he was cheating on me with several girls for several months. i told him to get out. he moved in with one of the girls and never came back. he first said to keep the ring but now he wants it back. what is right legally?

An engagement ring is a gift coditioned upon a promise. The promise is that you will get married. If there is no wedding, then the promise has not been fulfilled and you should return the ring. Emily Post may not agree!!!!
