Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio

defamatory letter

A person, through the open records laws, requested and received a copy of my personnel records. The person then later ran for public office and criticized my performance in a letter sent to about 3,000 people, citing the performance reviews. What he was citing was entirely false. Nothing in my performance review has been negative and I've received maximum raises for the years I've been employed. Is this defamation. If so, what action do I pursue?

Re: defamatory letter

If it is false, it is probably defamation/slander. What you can do is file suit. You will need to show damages from the letters, which may not be that hard to do. That kind of suit can also get punitive damages. If you are interested, feel free to contact me and we can discuss it further. Best regards, Edward DiCato
