Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio

reduced hourly wage

I work for a county owned hospital, I am the office manage of a hospital employed physician and they are merging all of the hospital physicians in one office, this office already has an office mgr so therefore my position as office mgr will not be needed. Can they put me in another position and reduce my hourly pay since this is not my choice?

To answer your question, yes, unless you have an employment contract or are subject to a collective bargaining agreement. Otherwise, you are an at-will employee and ordinarily, can be terminated with or without cause and therefore, can be offered another, lower-paying position in lieu of termination. That being said, however, I am not certain whether, as a county employee, you fall under the civil service rules. If so, you should consult your civil service book for guidelines/rules on displacement.
