my wife was fired 4 weeks before she was to go on maternity leave, would we have any kind of case for compensation

She might have claims for pregnancy and sex discrimination. The proximity of the firing to the scheduled maternity leave is interesting, but not dispositive. I need more facts re what the employer knew, the employer's policies re maternity leave and short-term disability, the employer's history re allowing women to take maternity leave, your wife's job performance, the reasons given for her termination and whether there is any truth to those reasons.
