Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Ohio

Have had Fed & State income tax calculations prepared by the same CPA for 8 years. Last year, the same CPA enlisted a second CPA to do the tax preparation.using original CPA's office and letterhead.I was unsatisfied with preparation and recommendations, but accepted the service. This year, I was informed that the original CPA could not do my taxes due to a binding agreement between the two CPA's. Do I have a right to reclaim all of my previous years financial/ tax information from the second party as this information and privacy there of , was limited to the original CPA and employees.

The short answer is yes. You own your data, and the CPA does not have the right to transfer it without your consent. However, the original CPA (and the new CPA for last tax year) have a right to keep a copy of their work product.
