should we have a new car titled in both husband and wife name or just in the driver/owners name (wife)?

A surviving spouse is entitled to 2 vehicles outside of probate, to a total value of $40,000. You need to worry about joint titling with a spouse only if the value of the vehicle, or 2 vehicles, to be received at the death of the other spouse exceeds that amount.

Be sure not to have more than 2 vehicles in the name of only one spouse. If more vehicles, title jointly
