Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

survivor's right to view will, etc..

Both of my parents died within the last 2 years. They died in another state, and my brother handled everything. I did not see their will, house sale info, an account of their finances, etc.. I received a small amount from my father's insurance, and a very small amount from what was supposedly left over after expenses. I have no proof of any of this. Do I have the legal right to view this information, especially their will?

Thank you,

Cheryl

Contact the probate court for the county in which your parents resided at their death and inquire as to how you may view the records. You may have to go there to view them, or they may have records available online. They may even mail them to you for a fee.

Yes, if your parents' wills were used to liquidate their estate. If so, the accounting of the estate assets is on file with the probate court. If they made other arrangements with their estate, for example, a tranfer on death deed for the house or joint and survivorship savings accounts, the information you are seeking should come from the one handling the estate.
