death while in prison

I have a daughter in prison in the last stages of AIDS. Am I responsible for burial or cremation expenses?

There are two factors to consider here. First of all, if your daughter is an adult, the law has not changed. She is still legally recognized as an adult who is legally emancipated by law. Secondly, when she was incarceration, she became a ward of the state and she will remain so, even after death. As such, if you choose to do so, your participation is merely voluntary.
