Legal Question in Federal Tort Claims in Oregon

criminal law oregon

I got mad and ran someone down, can I settle with them in a civil suit before the criminal suit is at trial? Basicaly...Can I pay them off? They were injured, soft tissue mostly and are still being treated (15months later). If I do settle, can they ''not testify'' for the state? Will the state then dismiss the charge?

Re: criminal law oregon

GET a criminal defense lawyer, pronto! There IS a procedure in Oregon called a "Civil Compromise" that might well address your situation and get rid of the criminal charge, depending on just what the charge is, too. BUT, there are sufficient twists and turns to it such that it would be foolhardy to try to do it on your own. If you're case is in the Portland area, I would recommend Eileen O'Reilly, John McVea or Kevin Lucy.

Good luck!
