Legal Question in Insurance Law in Oregon

I was attempting to turn around in a parking lot at the motel that I am staying in. I hit an air conditioner/heater unit and dented the side of it. It is broken, but fixable.

I tried to get a repairman to come look at it, but the manager at the motel is saying that he doesn't want anyone to come look at it except 'his' repairman. The manager's estimate was $1000, but he said he had to call GE still.

To top it all off, I don't have car insurance. My question is, what can I do, and what can he do as far as holding me responsible financially and legally?

Get your own repair estimate anyway. Then try and make a deal with the motel as best you can. The worst that can happen is the motel sues you and reports you to Motor Vehicles as uninsured. This might cause you a big problem if Oregon requires insurance to drive.
