Legal Question in Business Law in Pennsylvania

Service Award

After 24 and 1/2 years with a company I was let go and at the dismissal was told that I would recieve a 25 years ''service award'', (even though I did not make it to the anniversary date), by my boss. It has been over a year and this has failed to come about. I did have to ask him for my overtime pay which he had failed to pay for the past year and a half of my employment...he did this with a letter that stated he was angry with my request for this compensation and therefore did not know if he was going to give me a ''service award''. He did pay the overtime which I would think he was legally bound to do anyway. My question is do I have a leg to stand on in reguards to the ''service award'' I was promised. This was almost 25 years of my life and I feel cheated out of something I worked hard for and deserved...he is the one that let me go with no notice so close to this 25th year anniversary! Please help! If you have any more questions about this I will certainly answer them! Thanks for your time!

Re: Service Award

I assume you are in PA. In the absence of an employment contract I think you are on pretty shaky ground. Your cause of action would be for breach of an oral promise, without supporting evidence it would be your word against his. You could send him a letter and see what the response is.
