Legal Question in Consumer Law in Pennsylvania

non traffic citation

I received a citation from a state trooper after i yelled ''ass hole'' to

another trooper who had just shot a dog on the side of the interstate.

All the traffic was stopped and many people were out of their vehicles. I

was shocked that he shot the dog right in front of everyone. Anyhow

one officer in his car heard me and stopped me. I don't know what the

fine is but I am supposed to send $50 even if I plead not guilty. I would

rather just ignore the citation. Or write a letter of explanation but not

send the $50. Or just send in a not guilty plea without the money. I

would consider going to court but there is not court date on the citation.

There is no fine amount either.

Re: non traffic citation

Is this in PA? You are likely charged for disorderly conduct. However, yelling "asshole" at a cop is not disorderly conduct in PA. You should plead not guilty, and go to the hearing. I don't know why you have to pay $50. Call the court and ask for permission to pay nothing.

Then, get an attorney and go to the hearing. Maximum fine for summary disorderly is $300 plus court costs. If you are not successful at the Magisterial District Judge level, you may appeal to Common Pleas Court in the county where this took place, and you'd likely have better luck there.

Where in PA is this? Depending on location, I may be available. In any case, you should talk to an attorney.
