Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Why won't collection agency accept payment plan?

I have a credit card that has been turned over to a collection agency - an LLP law firm. 3 months ago the LLP allowed me to make three $50 payments on the balance. This month they contacted me and want me to pay lump sums ($700-1240) that I don't have. They will not let me continue paying on a payment plan which I can manage and am willing to do. They said if I don't come up with the large sum - legal action will ensue. What are my rights under PA law? I want to pay this debt. I can afford $50 a month. They are refusing to allow this. Is it legal for them to refuse my attempts to pay the debt just because I can only afford a minimal payment? Should I send them the money anyway? Should I seek legal counsel? Please help!

Re: Why won't collection agency accept payment plan?

You should review your situation with an attorney. The law firm collecting the debt need not adhere to the verbal agreement. You should certainly discuss the entire situation with a lawyer. If you would like to schedule a consultation with my office you may contact me.
