Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Credit Help

I recieved a letter from a collections company, they arae trying to collect a debit from a credit card from 13yrs ago. My questions is can they. THis company said that they purchased the loan and that they have the right to try to collect it. Like I said before this was a Credit card debit from 13yrs ago. Which the orginial company charged off. If the loan was charged off by the orginial company and they claimed it as a loss, can this other company try to collect the money. Especially since this debit occured in 1993 (13 yrs ago). I am just wondering if they can do that because this debit has already effected my credit in the past and I don't want it to again, but I feel that I should not have to pay this. Is it possible to collect a debit from 13 yrs. Thank you for your time in answering my question.

Re: Credit Help

There is a time limitation on collecting a debt. It seems that the collection agency has no right to collect. However, I suggest you have this matter reviewed by an attorney as there are exceptions. Based on your representations I believe you are able to avoid payment. It is best to seek legal counsel to be sure and dealing with the collection agency could prove difficult. Gerald Hershenson
