Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

I applied for a carry permit and was denied. Back in 2010 I was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Battery. The Battery was dropped and I was never convicted. I did have to pay a fine for the DOC. I have done a lot of research and I believe I should not have been denied a permit because the DOC was a fine, not a misdemeanor or felony etc. I challenged the decision and they sent something back basically vaguely stating it was because of the DOC and battery. What can I do to get this overturned? My husband is a hunter and owns many guns and we were told that this would affect his being able to have guns also. I am not a criminal. This was a domestic dispute years ago and a huge misunderstanding. What are my options if any?

Find a lawyer who deals with gun rights. They also should get the battery charge expunged.
