I am holding a family oriented BYOB

party. Do I need legal wording for the

invitation?

Well, you could put it in there, but even contractual language may not relieve you of liability under the Dram Shop Act, which provides that a social host who overserves a guest can be liable civilly. Still, if you are planning on putting any language in there, you might as well add something to the effect of (1) a general prohibition against underage drinkers; (2) a general disclaimer of liability; and (3) a specific disclaimer of liability under the Dram Shop Act or similar statute. That's just a general sketch.
