My partner of 16 years moved everything out of our apartment and my dogs how do I get my things back?

When someone takes your property, the cause of action to be filed is known as replevin. It merely seeks return of property that you clearly own and they don't have a right to. It is not a quick procedure, and the attorney's fees alone may be cost prohibitive.

The other option is to sue for the costs of the property taken under a theory of conversion which is essentially a civil version of theft. You can file that on your own in your local district justice, making a claim of up to $12,000.00
