Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Falsely accused

i am being accused of taking painkillers on my job.My company all ready suspended an employee for being involved. With no evidence of this besides word of mouth i am still worried about the future of my job.I do take excedrine on a daily basis but never have taken pain killers on the job. Can i really be fired and suspended for word of mouth? Interesting thing is my manager was accused of taking pain killers 6 months ago. Any kind of advice would be great. thank you

Re: Falsely accused

Pennsylvania is an "at will" employment state. That means that you can be terminated for any reason at all, absent a union agreement or contract of employment unless the termination is for a reason that violates public policy (race, sex, marital status, etc.). However, you have other rights in the situation that you describe outside of employment law, notably in the area of defamation, if you are terminated for a false reason.
