Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Being sued by check cashing place

I received a check from a general contractor in payment for some work I did for them. I cashed the check at a check cashing place. The check bounced and now the check cashing place is suing me for the money. Do I have to pay them back? They took the check and charged me a fee - shouldn't they be responsible for getting the money from the guy who wrote me the bad check. What should I say to the judge??? Any help would be really appreciated.

Re: Being sued by check cashing place

First why did you go to a checking cashing place at all. You could have gone to the bank the check was drawn on and had it cashed for free. Of course they might have told you that it was not a good check.

Sounds like you need to have a chat with the contractor. Once you notify them the check is no good they have 10 day to make it good or the can face criminal charges.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
