Legal Question in Employment Law in Pennsylvania

I was fired when i reached 59 with no warning. I filed an age discrimination complaint with the PHRC in Pennsylvania. My former employer refuses to return any phone calls from potential employers trying to get basic info such as my job title, how long I worked there, etc. My previous employer's HR department is sabotaging my potentially getting hired because of their refusal to return calls. Is there anything that I can do? Is this legal?

It always depends on the totality of the circumstances for each fact pattern; however, the PHRC does prohibit retaliation. If you are able to prove there is retaliation on the part of your old employer as a result of filing an age discrimination claim, then the likelihood of winning at the PHRC is fairly good. I would make sure that you have verifiable information considering the old employer not returning calls before you allege such a complaint.
