Is estate notice in newspapers required?

I have submitted my mother's will for probate, and have notified all beneficiaries listed in the will. Am I required to publish an estate notice in the local newspaper, notifying any potential additional claimants or debtors that the will is being probated?

Yes you are. Further, you should distribute anything to the beneficiaries till you know what the debts of the estate are.
