Can I open the estate of my late Grandmother

My grandmother has been deceased for 3 years, she left a home. My grandfather her ex-husband's name is also on the deed. They have been divoroced for about 14 years now. He doesn't want anything to do with the house. They have 4 children and 14 grandchildren. My grandmother raised me and I am the 3rd grandchild. I paid my grandmother taxes on her house when she was alive and since she has passed no one has paid taxes or made needed repairs to the home. I was her sole beneficiary with her life insurance policy and had to make all of the final arrangements as well as put the additional funding. No one wants to allow me to take over the house legally and they are letting the house go to waste and she wouldn't have wanted that what can I do legally. Or do I even have a right to do anything legally with the property.

There are a number of strategies you can employ. If her ex-husband does not want anything to do with the property you can ask him for a quit claim deed for his portion of the property. You can also petition the court to have you appointed administrator of the estate which would allow you to borrow money to pay taxes and upkeep while the estate was probated.
