Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

I have a refund check from my deceased husband's student loan and we have a joint bank account. The check is for $2,112.16. My bank is saying that I need to open an estate account and get a short form. Is this true?

Yes since the refund is in his name and he was deceased at the time of his refund you would have to open an estate. If this is the only asset in his name alone you may be able to use a shortened procedure. Best advice contact an attorney to review your situation.
