hurt my back at work. diagnosed with lumbar strain. Employer doc modified duties and i would like to know what does ''No prolonged standing and/ or walking longer than tolerated'' mean? I walk to work , am on feet all day at work and I know i am unable to do this right now. I can not stand or walk for long periods of time. My lower back aches and right leg feels weak. I am taking pain medication, muscle relaxer, oral steroids and doing physical therapy for injury Do I have to return to work if I am unable to do so?

If a doctor - particularly the company doctor - limits your ability to perform your normal job functions, then you should work reduced hours, sustain a partial disability and corresponding loss of income which entitles you to Workers' Comp wage protection.

These facts are the things which lawyers fight over in court. Just because you are entitled to money does not mean an insurance carrier will voluntarily do the right thing. Often, and perhaps usually, carriers do the wrong thing; to ignore your loss of income. Since a lawyer will take your case on a contingent fee, perhaps you should obtain experienced Claimants' Counsel to discuss your options in confidence.
