Re: how long you need to live in the state

You must reside in the State for one year. You must live separate and apart from your spouse for one year without cohabitation. The one year separation is the only no-fault divorce ground in South Carolina.

There are other very serious division of marital property problems and child custody and support payment enforcement problems if your spouse lives in another state.

You need to take a vacation to beautiful South Carolina and consult with a family lawyer about your desires and their practicality.
