Does a landlord have the right to freely search the tenants closest when he or she is not at home

A lease may allow the landlord to enter the propery but not to freely search the closets in the absence of the tenant without seeking a court order or direction

Not unless it's your mother.

The lease should have a right-of-entry clause that give you notice.

Contact your local legal aid, if you don't have the money to hire a lawyer.

Then, seriously consider moving.
