Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Divorce across State Lines

My fiance are scheduled to get married in May 2004. I checked in the county where we live to make sure he is divorced from his ex-wife. Their status shows that it has been filed. He said is was finalized in TN where his ex-wife lives. If this has not been finalized, how long can we expect to wait to get married. If it is final, what does he need to do to get it updated in the county/state were we live?

Re: Divorce across State Lines

He needs to contact the other lawyer and see if a final decree has been entered and if so, get a copy. If not, he needs to hire his own attorney so things can be finalized properly. He should have done that on the front end and then he would have had no doubt as to the status of the case. He may want to hire a lawyer now, even if the decree has been entered just to look at the matter and make sure everything has been done properly. Best of luck and congratulations!
