Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Jurisdiction

I have a 7 year old son out of wedlock. The first court hearing was in December of 1999. I had to take my sons father to court because he did not return him to me after a verbal visitation agreement. I was told that since there was no visitation or custoy record the only was I could get my son back was to go through the Tennessee courts. I lived in Alabama, never lived in Tennessee and the child was concieved and born in Alabama. I have reciently found out that I was misled by my attorney and in fact I should have contacted my courts in Alabama. For 7 years I have been going back and forth to Tennessee for Every problem, my husband is in the military so I have traveled as far as Arizona to go to court in Tennessee. How do I get it moved to my state, which is Alabama for the last 6 months? I also want to address child support because he is not paying it.

Re: Jurisdiction

If the child has lived in Alabama for the last three years, jurisdiction is proper here and all you have to do is file it in Alabama to domesticate the order that you have from another state. I'm at your service if you need me. 205.982.8515
