Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Tennessee

volunteer help for church

I am the Administratvie Assistant for a small church. I have worked with churches for the past 11 years. I have a volunteer who has been nominated by the board to sign checks and assist with bank reconciliation. The problem is that she makes copies of everything and takes it home and keeps a set of books for the church at her house. I am not comfortable with this and have asked her to do the volunteer work here at the church and leave all copies here. She refuses. She used to count the money and take it home overnight and deposit the monies the next day. This was stopped when I came on but now this. Is this a problem for the church or should I just let this older volunteer continue this practice.

Re: volunteer help for church

She already can sign checks and you probably should have a copy of everything; churches can and do burn down. But not having cash taken home is a good change.
