Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Tennessee

I closed on a property and now there is a party claiming they bought the house at auction because the previous owner didn't pay the taxes due. Shouldn't that have been discovered prior to closing? What is my recourse?

Contact the title company that closed the deal immediately. Hopefully you purchased an owner's title insurance policy so that any defenses costs you have will be covered by your policy if a claim is properly made. If you bought it and closed privately, that is directly with the seller you may have a problem. Here's why. He may have sold you something he no longer owned.

Second, go the court house and find out who enforces collection of property taxes. You can get a straight answer from them as well as documentation.
