Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Home repair

Is there a time limit to cancellation of an agreement to have a home repair done? The estimate seemed high, but I felt pressured to pay half of the cost immediately to insure that the repair could be scheduled. Later I learned that the repair could be done at a much lower cost. I tried to cancel the contract within 24 hours, but was told that it would incure a ''cancellation fee'' of $150. I had already paid $295. I am a recent widow & do not feel this is a fair practice. Do I have any recourse? Thank you.

Re: Home repair

Read what you signed. If it is difficult to understand, you may want to spend $200 asking a lawyer to interpret it for you. If the contract is a valid one, then you are bound by the terms.

Finding out you didn't make a good deal is not a valid reason to terminate a contract.
