Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

benefiary debt obligation

Am I legally obligated to pay a deceased persons debt if I am the beneficiary in the will. The funeral will cost $10000. The assets of the deceased are about $8000 {insurance and mobile home} with liabilities of approx. $15000. The bank has $1400 of the deceased but she has a credit card thru them, owing $4400. Can they attach her bank accounts due to the CC debt and and am I liable even though I have signed nothing?

Re: benefiary debt obligation

You need to talk to someone with probate experience. I recommend calling the lawyer referral service in your city/town/county. They will typically put you on the phone with a lawyer in that area with that specialty for free and even may get you a half hour office consultation for only $20.00. Good luck. Remember, when you call them tell them you need a probate and estate lawyer.
