Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Been reading about people going to prison for defaulting on credit card debts. This practice was abolished in the 19th century. Why are courts allowing this and is this legal in Texas or any other state for that matter?

Am not aware of any case where a debtor when to prison for defaulting on a credit card, in the last 100 years.
