Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Rental history

I had an ex roommate who is livid about a negative credit report which contains a delinquency from our lease. He moved out before this lease was up, and I am solely responsible for the rent that was not paid. I know technically he was still part of the contract, but the landlord knew he had left. I'm curious if there is any way I can make my landlord revoke this report in his name from the credit bureaus, and only report the delinquency on my behalf. I'm the one who didn't pay, does he has to carry my mistake around for years?
