Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

reporting a debt twice

See question below------the debt was on credit report in past----bringing credit rating way down with several other debts----can it be reported AGAIN is what I am asking??

I have an unpaid debt (I understand I still owe the money) that is over 7 years old. It is no longer being reported on my credit reports since it has been over 7 yrs. This past Sat I was awaken by a phone call identifying themself from a law office (the area code was in Pa when I looked it up later) wanting to collect one of the over 7 yr old debts. They threatened a lawsuit. I continually said I could do nothing now and then we were disconnected (not by me) I never acknowledged the debt. Just said I could do nothing now. Today I recieved a letter from same people saying if not paid it will be reported to credit bureaus. Can an old debt be REreported to credit bureaus?

Re: reporting a debt twice

Generally, under the Fair Debt Collection Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act once the seven year period has passed the account should be removed from your credit report. It is up to you to be diligent in ensuring that the information on your credit report is correct. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]).
