Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

15 year old rights

My God-daughter is 15 years old. Her mother has custody of her, but her father is filing for custody. Her mother does not have the money for an attorney. My God-daughter is very happy living with her mother and does not want to live with her father. Last month the court found that her father owes $40,000 in back child support. At 15 years old, does my God-daughter have any rights in this situation and do judges take her feelings into consideration. Thank you.

Re: 15 year old rights

Actually at her age she will get to say who she wishes to stay with and the court will seriously consider her wishes.

She should see about having an attorney seek a judgment against the father for the back child support as well as interest.
