I was divorced for 2 years when my ex wife died. Now three years later I learned my daughter didn't pay the estate bills and my ex wife had defaulted on loans with my name on them. I am getting PI calls. what do I do? I WAS TOLD ALL BILLS WERE PAID

The situation that you're in is very common.

Remember that the divorce didn't "take your name off the bills."

The creditors still have all their legal (contractual) rights. They are not affected by anything that's in the divorce decree.

BUT ... collection of these debts may be barred by the statute of limitations.

When you get the phone calls, just tell the bill collectors that you are not going to pay them.

If they keep talking, tell them that you are not going to pay the debt.

If they threaten you, tell them that you are not going to pay the debt. Ever.

Don't give them an explanation. Don't tell them about the divorce, or your wife, or your daughter. Just tell them that you are not going to pay the debt. Don't tell them why. Even if they ask. Don't make a payment agreement. Don't sign anything. Don't respond to any letters.

Eventually, you'll have to hang up the phone.
