Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

ex g/f not paying on car in both our names

My ex g/f and I have a car financed together and so far she has been over 30 days late 17 times so far which is of course killing my credit. I am on the title as buyer and her as co buyer with lien through Ford. I am wondering what legal issues I would run into if I went and took possession of the car while she was at work and returned her personal things inside and started making the payments on time myself. She also owes me a large sum of money which she signed a notarized agreement to repay me and she has not paid anything in the past year and half or so. She lives in WA now and I am in TX. I have been told by several law officers in her area ,as long as I had paperwork showing I was the owner and had a right to the car, there is nothing they can do even if she calls it in as a stolen auto. Any info is appreciated.

As co-owner, you have an equal right to possession of the vehicle. Just be careful to not "breach the peace" or cause any kind of confrontation. And, yes, be sure you have copies of the paperwork with you.
