Should a "Power of Attorney", be given to an agent for insurance of a car accident?

Sometimes they are provided when they pay you for a total loss on your vehicle. Much depends on the purpose for the power of attorney and whether it is a general power of attorney to act in connection with all matters are whether it is a limited power of attorney to act in connection with a specific matter.
