Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

annual bonus retension

Hi, i was working for an american company under an expatriate-type employment contract in the middle east. My contract ended in December-2006 but despite requesting a new one, none was issued. Since that time i continued to work for them without issue until resigning January-2008. I was subject to recieving an annual bonus and one is due for the 2007 year. My manager is now claming that the bonus is/was discretionary and i will not recieve it as i have left the company. Although there is no reference to recieving an annual bonus in the expired contract, I have a bonus schedule from them for the year 2007 that was issued to me in January-2007 and another e-mail from December-2007 from the president confirming the bonus would be paid. In my eyes there is no way they can with-hold but i need some tips in persuasion, as of yet (three months since my resignation and two weeks since my last working day) they have refused.
