Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

i signed a rental contract for 1yr, 4 yrs ago. I moved out a month ago leaving my ex and his family moved in to help him pay the rent. This months rent is due, the family refuses to pay the rent and he gave his 30 day notice 2 wks ago to the landlord. They say there is nothing the landlord can make them do to move and I need to pay the rent for them to stay out of trouble . Is this true?

You need to read your original lease agreement. Even though it was done years ago, most leases have an automatic renewal clause. If may say that after the first year then you are month to month or it may say it renews for a whole new year. The lease will also tell you what the minimum amount of notice needed before you can move out after your lease term is up. Usually a 30 day written notice.

What ever it says, you are bound by the lease terms no matter who is living there. You may also want to check the lease because you may be violating the lease by not living there.
