Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

Bad contractor

I had a house fire and my house had to be gutted. The insurance company was responsible for inspecting the property and dispersing the funds to the contractor. The last payment given to the contractor was way more than it should have been because the inpector (for the ins. co.) said the work was 90 percent done. When in reality it was only about 50 percent done. The contractor took the money and never finished anymore of the work. I am now left with no money and a home that is total unlivable or unsellable. What can I do?

Re: Bad contractor

I would advise you to first contact your insurer and insurer's legal counsel. If that does not remedy the situation, you should speak with an attorney. You could bring a few different causes of action against the contractor.

Any competent consumer law attorney could assist you with the case. Give me a call or email if you would like my assistance.
