Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

My landlord recently placed the home that I am renting on the market. My lease does not end until August 2013. In one day I have had potential buyers from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Today was my off day and I have not been been in the home all day. I cannot peacefully live in the house. They left the lights and fan on all day. One agent entered my home with an unscheduled showing while I was sleeping in my bed. The landlord will not release me from the contract until he has a contract on the home. What are my rights? I want to mover; I am not content with having random people in the home when my husband travels frequently. Please advise.

Does your lease require you to allow strangers into your house?

I would treat these people as trespassers - I'd meet them at the door with a baseball bat, and THEN call the police.

And I would write a certified letter to the landlord telling him that as long as I'm paying rent, he (and his buyers) are to stay out of my home. I would mail a copy to the local police.

As for moving: It sounds as if the landlord has breached the lease by his outrageous conduct. If I were you, I'd go get some boxes and start packing. When you move out, write a letter to the landlord (keep a copy) and tell him why you're moving, and demand your deposit back. And sue him when he doesn't give it to you.
