Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

real estate/lost deed/or no deed

I inherited land in Jack County Texas which was plotted in 1890. I have no deed, but have been paying the taxes on the land for several years. It belonged to my dad who was born in 1910 and his father before that. Don't know if there ever was a deed or if they even issued deeds at that time. Since I have been paying the taxes on the property am I officially considered the owner or do I need a deed. We are thinking about having reunions on the acre and a half and want to make sure everything is legally mine. I might build a house on the land. If I need something recorded legally can an attorney do that for me.

Consult with a TX attorney near where the property is located. He/she can help you clear up the title.
