Legal Question in Traffic Law in Texas

I traded my grand father my car for his car, but his car did not have a title (the 87 mustang). Now i'm trying to find out how I can get the title since the guy he bought it from was deported back to mexico. And just in case what if it wasen't even his or what if it was stolen before he sold it to my grand father. He told my grand father he brought it from mexico for him.

If the car is insured, and it was reported stolen, your insurance would have probably notified you at the time you tried to insure it.

Call DMV with the VIN number and confirm the name of the title owner of the car. You can apply for a bonded title. Your grandfather will need to sign an affidavit, with you, detailing the history of the car, as you know it. DMV will research the history of the car, and if valid, will issue the title. DMV will have additional information, but I believe that after a year or two with the bonded title, if no contest is filed, they will then issue a regular title.
