affidavit of heirship

My father died in 1996 leaving a savings account but no will. I am only heir. What do I need to claim this money?Do I need an Affidavit of heirship and if so where do I get it and in what state?

Contact the bank where the account is located and ask them if an affidavit of heirship would be sufficient for them to turn over the account.
