Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

Debts of a desceased person

My mother recently passed away and left no estate. There was some life insurance that I owned and paid the premiums on. However, she owned no property or investments and only had about $1200 in a checking account when she died. She owed about $8,000 on several credit cards. I sent copies of her death certificate to her creditors. I am her son and only heir. Is there any way that I can he held liable for her debts?

Re: Debts of a desceased person

No, unless they were joint accounts or some variant thereof in which you signed an agreement to pay the charges on the accounts or guaranteed that they would be paid by you if, for whatever reason, they could not be paid by your mother.
