Legal Question in DUI Law in Virginia

Getting restricted license amended

I was convicted of a DUI in Dec, 2003. I live in the DC area and was convicted in Standardsville which is about 1.5 hours away. I was granted a restricted license for work and given ASAP in Arlington. I recently moved and switched jobs so I found out that I needed to amended my restricted license. In order to do that I have to go back down to standardsville and go in front of the judge. I need my car for work, however now I am driving ''ilegally'' because I can't get down there. I have no one to drive me, taxis won't do it, greyhound doesn't run down there, I can't drive myself, so there has to be something else I can do. I don't want to be in trouble, however I'm not left with any choices. I'm not looking for special treatment but there has to be something that can be done?

Re: Getting restricted license amended

You should write a letter c/o of the clerk of court to the judge who handled your case and explain the situation. Enclose copies of the relevant paperwork connected with your case and request that the order be amended "ex-parte" and without the need for a formal hearing and the requirement that all parties appear in order to allow for the changes in your circumstances which you've described.
