Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

The case was started in Virginia and closed due to the child being over 18 but he still owes arrears. He now resides in Georgia which we consulted a lawyer and they said all we had to do was write up a paper to waive it, have her sign it, give it to child support enforcement and it's over. She wants to settle out of court. The case is in ga now. Plus, she received welfare for 5 years for her third child so we called his case worker in Virginia which they say he owes 24,000 (welfare)and 7,000 (child support). The case worker in va said she can't mail this information showing what he owes. It's confusing because the court order just says he owes for the child support which was served by the sheriff to us. Is there a way to get a copy of exactly what is owed and if it includes paying back the welfare.

The Virginia agency known as DCSE (Division of Child Support Enforcement)

is the agency which will have the official record of what the obligor owes

for welfare that was paid out by the Commonwealth during those five years

and it should be more than willing to send him the bill for what he owes as reimbursement for this welfare.,

And, whatever is left as arrearages accrued under this court order would

be the amount that is owed to the mother after subtracting the amount

paid to the Commonwealth as reimbursement for these welfare funds.
