if your child finishes school at 16 1/2 do I still have to pay child support until he is 18?

Resisting the temptation to say that, due to the influence of heredity, my child would never finish school by age 16 1/2, the answer is yes.

Unless the child becomes emancipated before age 18.

Normally, yes, unless the child becomes fully emancipated before age 18 and as a consequence the current support order is vacated by the court having jurisdiction over the matter.
